I Have a few of them, Smile

The average size of a newborn kangaroo is the size of a coffee bean.

Pit vipers get their name from the two heat-sensing pits on their heads. These snakes sense heat produced by the bodies of other living creatures. Of course, to actually see these pits in the wild, you’re more than likely too close!

Sugar gliders get their name because of the specialized flap connecting the front leg to the hind leg, giving them the ability to glide.

I Hope You like my facts, I Want a v-flag so badly. Razz

The common huntsman spider is found throughout south-eastern Australia. It lives anywhere, favouring plants which will offer shelter such as ivy. It is very common to have huntsman spiders in urban areas, and the spiders will come inside your house.

They feed on insects and other such invertebrates.

They can bite you, and if they do, it will be painful and swelling may occur.

    Hope i win:D

    Australian Animals Empty Platypus Facts!

Post by Jedilachlan Thu May 28, 2009 4:34 pm

    Hello Guys,

    Today I have some facts.

Below are facts about the Australian Platypus:

The male platypus has a spur on its heel capable of delvering a cocktail of venom and this hurts alot. The platypus is one of the few venomous mammals.

The platypus uses its two front feet to propel itself forward in a unique, alternate rowing motion. Its hind feet, also webbed, are held against the body and — along with the tail — are used for steering.

In the early 1900's platypuses were hunted for their fur.

Below is a picture of a platypus:
    Australian Animals Platyp10

Now below are some facts about a kangaroo:

It stands taller than a man and can weigh 85 kg's. It is the largest marsupial in the world.

The smaller ones are usually called Wallabies. The largest is the Red Kangaroo.

There are over 40 different types (species) of Kangaroo.

A Kangaroo is a marsupial mammal. It is a macropod which means "big foot".

I got something on Australia, like ive already posted...The Aborigines came to Australia around 60,000 years ago. They are the oldest, living people in the world today. In the late 1700’s the British came and took over. The population of the Aborigines started to decrease drastically because of the common cold. They had not built up an immune system to it and many people died. The British thought they were helping the Aborigines by taking the children and putting them in British schools, but they were making things more complicated. The Aborigines finally earned their rights as citizens in the late 1900’s even though they were at Australia first.

Also the dingo was intraduced to the later on and became one of the first domestic AND hunting dogs!
The Tasmanian Devil is usually black with a white "collar" or patch around its neck. It is the size of a small terrier dog very solid and "stout" and weighs in between 6 and 8 kgs It has a tail of between 9 to 12" long. Tasmanian Devils have an extremely
large powerful head with a wide jaw with sharp teeth pointy pink ears (that turn red when angry due to increased blood flow) and piercing dark eyes
Its dark colouring helps it to move around unseen at night time (feeding time)

    Good enough?! lol!

Hi I got some facts about a NUM-BAT. (also referred as Walpurti(s)

The numbat is like a squirrel like animal.
It can eat up 20,000 termites per day!
Once the numbats are fully grown they reach about 40cms from nose to tail.
The numbat also have long-snouts and long tongues to help them get termites to catch and eat.
The numbats where endangered a few years ago but the population has once increased again.

I have some more infos about Numbats too:

Unlike most other marsupials, a Numbat is diurnal, largely because of the constraints of having a specialised diet without having the usual physical equipment for it. Most ecosystems with a generous supply of termites have a fairly large creature with a very long, thin, sticky tongue for penetrating termite colonies, and powerful forelimbs with heavy claws. Like other mammals that eat termites or ants, the numbat has a degenerate jaw with non-functional teeth, and is unable to chew. Nonetheless, numbats do have a similar dental formula to many other marsupials

While the numbat has relatively powerful claws for its size, it is not strong enough to get at termites inside the concrete-like mound, and so must wait until the termites are active. It uses a very good sense of smell to locate the shallow and unfortified underground galleries that termites construct between the nest and their feeding sites; these are usually only a short distance below the surface of the soil, and vulnerable to the Numbats digging claws.

Numbats sleeps in a nest, which can be in a hollow log or tree, or in a burrow, typically a narrow shaft one or two metres long which terminates in a spherical chamber lined with soft plant material: grass, leaves, flowers and shredded bark. The Numbat is able to block the opening of its nest, with the thick hide of its rump, to any predator able to access the burrow

and here i try to draw a Numbat, so you can imagine better:

Koalas aren't bears as many people are led to believe. They aren't even related to bears. The koala is related to the kangaroo and the wombat. The koala is a mammal. The reason the koala is called a koala bear is because the koala looks like a teddy bear. The koala's scientific name is Phasclarctos cinereus.

The fauna of Australia consists of a huge variety of unique animals; some 83% of mammals, 89% of reptiles, 90% of fish and insects and 93% of amphibians that inhabit the continent are endemic to Australia.[1] This high level of endemism can be attributed to the continent's long geographic isolation, tectonic stability, and the effects of an unusual pattern of climate change on the soil and flora over geological time. A unique feature of Australia's fauna is the relative scarcity of native placental mammals. Consequently the marsupials—a group of mammals that raise their young in a pouch, including the macropods, possums and dasyuromorphs—occupy many of the ecological niches placental animals occupy elsewhere in the world. Australia is home to two of the five known extant species of monotremes and has numerous venomous species, which include the Platypus, spiders, scorpions, octopus, jellyfish, molluscs, stonefish, and stingrays. Uniquely, Australia has more venomous than non-venomous species of snakes.
The settlement of Australia by Indigenous Australians more than 40,000 years ago, and by Europeans from 1788, has significantly affected the fauna. Hunting, the introduction of non-native species, and land-management practices involving the modification or destruction of habitats have led to numerous extinctions. Some examples include the Paradise Parrot, Pig-footed Bandicoot and the Broad-faced Potoroo. Unsustainable land use still threatens the survival of many species. To target threats to the survival of its fauna, Australia has passed wide-ranging federal and state legislation and established numerous protected areas.Australia has a rich mammalian fossil history, as well as a variety of extant mammalian species, dominated by the marsupials. The fossil record shows that monotremes have been present in Australia since the Early Cretaceous 145–99 MYA,[2] and that marsupials and placental mammals date from the Eocene 56–34 MYA,[3] when modern mammals first appeared in the fossil record. Although marsupials and placental mammals did coexist in Australia in the Eocene, only marsupials have survived to the present. The placental mammals made their reappearance in Australia in the Miocene, when Australia moved closer to Indonesia, and bats and rodents started to appear reliably in the fossil record. The marsupials evolved to fill specific ecological niches, and in many cases they are physically similar to the placental mammals in Eurasia and North America that occupy similar niches, a phenomenon known as convergent evolution.[4] For example, the top predator in Australia, the Tasmanian Tiger, bore a

    About koalas! Very Happy

Koalas are often referred to as a Koala bear. However they are not a bear. The name Koala comes from an Aboriginal word. It means "no drink", as Koalas get enough fluids through the eucalyptis leaves they feed on.Very Happy

Penguins are only found in the Southern Hemisphere and the Little Blue (or Fairy Penguin) are found along the shores of Southern Australia and New Zealand (see map)
Australian LocationTheir scientific name is "Eudyptula minor", Eudyptula being Greek for "good little diver, which is a great description for this smallest species of penguin Little penguins spend their days out at sea in groups, referred to as rafts and at dusk they return to their burrows or rock crevice colonies, in small groups Whilst on land they are very noisy especially before their pre dawn departure back to sea to feed

take a look of this ^_^ ---> Australian Animals Cute_p13

These small penguins (16 inches) have a bluish colour to their upper feathers, and white underbelly , chin and neck and no ornamental plumage on the head at all. There weight is around the 1kg mark
Like most penguins their bodies are best described as short and stocky to "chubby". The Little Penguins short stiff feathers are kept waterproof by preening from oil glands located at the base of the tail Little penguins do molt though so their feathers are not always oily smooth
