Dinosaurs are extremely old reptiles that lived 245 million years ago in the Mesozoic Era. The Mesozoic Era is made up of the periods which are the Triassic Period, the Jurassic Period, and the Cretaceous Period. The oldest dinosaurs lived through the Triassic Period such as Coelophysis. There were other reptiles similar to dinosaurs, but were not dinosaurs. An example would be Effigia which was an archosaur. It is very similar to dinosaurs, but they found out that it wasn't in January 2006.
