The Aborigines came to Australia around 60,000 years ago. They are the oldest, living people in the world today. In the late 1700’s the British came and took over. The population of the Aborigines started to decrease drastically because of the common cold. They had not built up an immune system to it and many people died. The British thought they were helping the Aborigines by taking the children and putting them in British schools, but they were making things more complicated. The Aborigines finally earned their rights as citizens in the late 1900’s even though they were at Australia first.
